Spinnaker Yacht Club cruise out
Make plans now to join us on the cruise out to the Spinnaker Yacht Club on February 3-5. This is an all volunteer club and is located on Pescador Point at the San Leandro Marina and Shoreline Recreation Area. The club boasts a new 120 foot long guest dock with electrical outlets and is situated across the street from the San Leandro Marina. Within easy walking distance are Horatio’s and El Torito’s restaurants, the municipal Marina Golf Coarse and a scenic Marina Park.
This is an easy two hour sail from the Oakland Yacht Club. Plans in the making are a leisurely Saturday brunch on Horatio’s outdoor patio overlooking the marina (enclosed and heated in the winter) and a dinner offered by the Spinnaker YC on Saturday night. The menu and price has yet to be determined. Other activities could include games in the club house, an afternoon walk along the marina walking paths, or just hanging out with friends.
The marina is offering a special cruise in fee of $15 per night. Those who will be docking at the SYC guest dock will receive free docking. The San Leandro channel has been dredged within the last three years to 6 feet at low tide and will not pose a problem during medium or higher tide (roughly 10AM to 2PM on our arrival and departure days). See the attached tide information. Your cruise captains have a 42 foot sail boat with a 6.8 foot draft, and we have been assured we will have no problem getting in or out. We have been told that there is approximately 4.5 to 5 feet of water in the Marina during low tide.
This is an ideal mid winter weekend get-a-way and we will be back at OYC in time for the Super Bowl Party on Sunday February 5.

The area off the Spinnaker Yacht Club Dock is shallow at low tide. I don’t have recent survey information for that area but have been told by SYC members that the depth is about 2 feet at low tide so even shallow draft boats may rest in soft mud at low or minus tides. Within the harbor slip depths may vary some but are generally 4.5 to 5 feet at low tide. The main channel leading to the marina was dredged a few years ago giving the channel a depth of 6 feet at low tide. Using the tidal data above you can calculate the marina and approach channel depth depending on your time of arrival or departure. Most captains will probably want to get there before 2 pm on Friday or Saturday and leave before 2 pm on Sunday.
