The Oakland Yacht Club is many things but foremost it is a place where you, as a member, can do boating, learn more about boating, talk with like-minded people about boating, and play with like-minded people within a boating world. You can even provide other boating persons with your hard won experience. The wholly owned Clubhouse is a casual, beautiful place to relax, have a bite, and maybe have a beverage or two. Members can use the showers and the ice and even get box lunches for the boating event you have planned for the day.
This Yacht Club is fairly unusual in that it has its own harbor, and that marina sets right under the club windows. As a member you can have your boat in its slip close at hand (on a space available basis). Since the parking is ample and just around the Clubhouse, moving materials between the boat and the car is easy. Think about the pleasure of staying overnight on your boat with the Club close at hand with restrooms, showers, and food. If you have guests for overnight, you can put them up in the very nice Marina Village Inn right next door.
The Clubhouse and Harbor are on the Oakland-Alameda Estuary (on the Alameda side) where boating of all kinds can and do take place including casual sailboat racing, or just the simple beautiful activity of being on the water for no particular reason. Or how about boating to just across the Estuary to Jack London Square? Approximately 40 to 45 minutes puts you on the Bay where some of the best boating in the world is available. Races in which to participate, places to visit and views without equal.
Both Sail and Power boaters participate in an active cruising program. Here the social aspect of the Yacht Club is most clearly associated with the yachting basis of the Club. However, every aspect of the Club has its social side, not only inside of the Clubhouse but on the docks as well.
As members, you can join in the educational activities that are provided continually and even provide some of that education within the comfort of round table sessions.
The Oakland Yacht Club is member owned and as owners you will be invited to participate in the management of the facility. It is true that there is a superb professional staff including the General Manager, the Assistant Manager, the Head of Maintenance, and the Chef. However, the corporation is directed by a Board and there is an extensive set of committees to prosecute the mostly volunteer needs of the Club. Serving as members of the Board of Directors, as chairpersons of the committees and as committee members is quite satisfying.
You can learn more about the benefits of membership in the Oakland Yacht Club on this website and even ask questions that will be answered directly to your own e-mail address. You are urged and invited to inquire.
