GENERAL
The Rites of Spring race provides the challenge of racing single handed, double handed, or fully crewed.  Non-spinnaker and spinnaker fleets are included.  "rites" participants represent the whole spectrum of bay racers including many who do not originally race shirt handed.
ELIGIBILITY
PHRF time-on-distance handicaps will be used.  All monohull yachts must have NCPHRF certificate and multihull yachts must have a BAMA rating certificate.  The certificate is to be dated after January 1, 2023.
RACING AREA
The course will be in the Central Bay, about 6 - 16 miles long, starting near the Berkeley Pier and finishing east of Treasure Island, north of the Bay Bride.
SAFETY AND AUTOPILOTS
Life jackets must be worn.  Autopilots are allowed for single-handers only.
INSTRUCTIONS
Racers will be governed by the Racing Rules of Sailing 2021 - 2024 and OYC Sailing Instructions. Sailing Instructions and Course Sheets will be available on Jibset, at the Oakland Yacht Club and on OYC's website no later than March 23, 2024.
ENTRY FEES - DOCUMENTS
Entry fee is $45 through March 23, 2024 and $55 after March 23, 2024.  Register and pay fees in line at http://www.jibeset.net/OYC000.php?RG=T006719760
FLEET - DIVISIONS
One-design divisions will be established if at least five boats register.  Double-handed, single-handed, spinnaker, non-spinnaker, full crew and multihulls will compete in separate fleet.  If necessary for meaningful competition, some non-spinnaker boats may be given a rating bonus and assigned to a spinnaker fleet.  Preliminary fleet assignments will be available by 1700 hours, March 27, 2024 and the final fleet assignments by 1700 hours, March 29, 2024. Late entries create a one-design fleet, the race committee will make every effort to establish a one-design start.
SHIRTS & AWARDS
Tow T-shirts for each boat are included for each entry and will be available at the awards ceremony or thereafter at OYC (closed Mondays).  Additional shirts can be purchased while registering.  Awards will be presented to the tops finishers at OYC on Sunday, April 21, 2024, at 1400 hours.  Brunch is available 1000 to 1200 hours; reservations advised.
